Reconstruction is under way at a Cobble Hill church that was badly damaged after being struck by lightning last month.

The strike hit the steeple of the Christ Church, causing scaffolding to collapse onto the sidewalk and killing Kings County Assistant District Attorney Richard Schwartz. The incident also left an entire congregation without a place to worship.

The Kane Street Synagogue, located down the street, is helping parishioners by opening its doors for services for at least the next four weeks.

The building was built in 1842 and is Brooklyn's oldest Episcopal church.
