BK councilman proposes alternative to car towing

A councilman from Brooklyn believes he has a solution that can save car owners money when it comes to unpaid tickets.
Rep. David Greenfield has a proposal that would allow the city to boot cars, instead of towing them for unpaid traffic tickets. Greenfield believes the measure would eliminate the hours and money people spend getting their cars out of the impound lot.
Greenfield also added that this measure would free up more space in the impound lot, so the city could pay more attention to cracking down on illegal taxis and dollar vans.
If the proposal is approved, drivers would still be towed if their car poses a hazard, like parking at a hydrant or blocking a pedestrian ramp.
