NYPD officer promoted after being shot in the line of duty
Officer Kevin Brennan was promoted to detective at a ceremony today, weeks after being shot in the line of duty in Bushwick.
Brennan called himself "the luckiest man on the planet" after managing to survive being shot in the head.
Brennan was shot while responding to a call of shots fired at the Bushwick Houses. Brennan was released from Bellevue Hospital two weeks ago, but still goes to therapy daily.
Also promoted today was Kevin Herlihy, who was shot in the arm earlier this month during a gunfight with a suspect in Harlem. Commissioner Ray Kelly said both officers survived with a combination of skill and courage.
