NY Archbishop Dolan becomes cardinal in Vatican ceremony
New York Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan has been officially elevated to cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in a ceremony at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
Hundreds of pilgrims from around the world traveled to Vatican City to witness the elevation of Dolan and 20 other bishops.
Cardinals elect the next pope and make themselves available as advisors to the pope upon his request.
