Kensington supermarket workers sue owners for back pay

Ten workers at a Kensington supermarket have filed a lawsuit against the owners to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars in back pay.
The employees of Golden Farm Market on Church Avenue claim they had spent years working six days a week, 12 hours a day and only received between $360 and $450 a week, which is less than the minimum wage.
The workers have kept their jobs at the store since filing the lawsuit. They are now being paid the legal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
"We paid everything according to the U.S. labor law," says supermarket co-owner Steve Kim.
The Department of Labor is said to be investigating the case. Meanwhile, the store employees are hoping to get their back pay, as well as negotiate a contract with basic benefits like paid vacation days and sick days.
The workers plan to hold a rally at the store Saturday at 2 p.m.
