Struggling city schools to learn their fate tonight
The Panel for Educational Policy will cast a final vote tonight on the future of struggling public schools across the city.
The Department of Education (DOE) says the schools on the chopping block have consistently performed poorly. Officials will decide whether to expand, merge, phase out, shut down or shrink each of them.
P.S. 161 in Crown Heights is among 25 Brooklyn schools that could be affected. Parents there boycotted the proposal to lose grades on Monday by keeping their kids out of the classroom.
