Synchronized swimming makes splash in Brooklyn

Hoping to bring something fresh to Brooklyn, two friends have started synchronized swimming classes at the Dodge YMCA in Downtown Brooklyn. The classes have been a big hit, with a diverse group of Brooklyn residents eagerly taking on new waters.

Friends Nicole Sciarrillo and Nicole Salm started the classes last year, as a way to put their talents to good use and encourage people in the community to exercise.

"It feels like what Brooklyn is looking for," said Salm. "Brooklyn is always looking for something new, something fresh, something that's a throwback."

The class meets every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Dodge YMCA on Atlantic Avenue.
