Officer who survived shooting will get to see daughter grow up

While officer Kevin Brennan faces a long road to recovery after being shot in the head last night, those who know the couple say they're thankful he'll likely get to see his newborn daughter grow up.

Brennan and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter, into the world a mere six weeks ago.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that while Brennan is expected to survive, more tests are being conducted to determine the long-term effects of his injuries.

Brennan is considered to be an excellent officer and has received many awards for his police work, according to officials. Brennan joined the force in 2005.

A suspect in Brennan's shooting is in custody.
