Officer hurt, suspect arrested in Brownsville police chase

Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle and injured an officer during a pursuit in Brownsville earlier today.
Authorities say the chase began in East New York when officers tried to approach a black Mercedes on the corner of Pennsylvania and Liberty avenues. The suspect fled, leading police on a pursuit while driving against traffic on Powell Street.
According to officials, the driver struck a tour bus and police cruiser, and then left the car and used scaffolding to climb atop a store in Brownsville. He was taken into custody on the roof.
The suspect's car hit one of the officers, who discharged his gun, but did not hit the man. The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital with a leg injury.
