Teens eyed in Prospect Park bird habitat fire
Eyewitnesses say three teenagers may have started a small fire at Prospect Park's bird habitat Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out on a popular jogging and biking trail adjacent to the gated habitat. Most of the birds were gone for the winter, so none were hurt. Police and park officials were able to put out the fire using shovels and fire extinguishers. Local bird watcher Ed Bahlman says the damage could have been more extensive had the blaze not been discovered quickly. Some park visitors say they demand an increased police presence to prevent similar incidents.
