Some non-smoking tenants may soon breathe a sigh of relief as Mayor Michael Bloomberg pushes new legislation to curb their exposure to second-hand smoke.
The proposed bill would require residential buildings to explicitly state where smoking is and is not permitted, including indoor common areas and outdoor locations.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the city received more than 2,000 complaints of second-hand smoke in apartment buildings over the last nine months.
If passed, violating the disclosure law could cost building management a $100 fine.
