Auxiliary cop gunned down in Canarsie

An off-duty NYPD auxiliary officer was shot and killed near his Canarsie home early this morning, officials say.

Police say they responded to a 911 call at around 6 a.m. and found Francky Aleger shot in the back at East 95th Street and Glenwood Road.

The 39-year-old officer was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, Aleger lived about 10 blocks from the spot where he was gunned down. They say he volunteered for the NYPD in Manhattan. He leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 6 and 8.
