Helping returning veterans assimilate back home
Memorial Day not only remembers fallen war heroes, but it's also a time to reflect on and help the service men and women who are returning home.
Doctors say family and friends can help returning vets assimilate back into everyday life, but warn never to assume you understand what they've gone through. Therapists also say not to pile on the flattery for a job well done because some soldiers are embittered by their experiences.
According to experts, the reactions to war are different for every person so it's important to be patient and listen. They say vets will talk when they're ready and can often work issues out for themselves.
