1 arrested, 1 sought in Crown Heights shoe store shooting

Police have arrested one man and are seeking another after two bystanders were hit by crossfire in a shooting at a Crown Heights shoe store yesterday.

A 12-year-old boy was hit in the leg and a 34-year-old man was hit in the arm at the Rugged Sole shoe store on Utica Avenue Monday night. Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital and have since been released.

Police say that Kenneth Meeks, an employee at the shoe store, returned fire after suspect Gerald Spears, 23, shot at him.

Meeks, 45, has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment. Police are still looking for Spears.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
