A Brooklyn congressman is fighting to save a city-based counterterrorism unit that's trained to respond to weapons of mass destruction.

The WMD Civil Support team could be eliminated by proposed Department of Defense budget cuts. The unit was established after the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and has executed more than 175 missions with first responders since 2010.

Rep. Michael Grimm (D-Brooklyn), a former FBI agent, is calling on Congress to make cuts elsewhere to save the unit.
