It's National HIV Testing Day and Brooklyn is doing its part to spread awareness.
Organizations from across the borough are providing free tests, including several mobile sites. The hope is that encouraging everyone to get tested will lead to early diagnosis and proper treatment.
In 2010, the city Department of Health estimated that more than 27,000 Brooklyn residents would be living with HIV or AIDS by the end of that year. Officials say that this year alone, 900 people were newly diagnosed.
