Assemblyman Jeffries celebrates primary day win

State Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is celebrating after a big primary day win on Tuesday.
The Brooklyn politician defeated city Councilman Charles Barron by a landslide for the Democratic nomination in the 8th Congressional District. He was at the Utica Avenue A and C subway station Wednesday morning thanking residents for their support.
Other big wins included Rep. Nydia Velazquez, who won a four-way primary for the Democratic nomination in the 7th District, beating out Erik Martin Dilan, Daniel O'Connor and George Martinez. In the 9th District, incumbent Yvette Clarke defeated Sylvia Kinard to also take the Democratic nomination.
In the U.S. Senate, Wendy Long secured the Republican nomination with more than 50 percent of the vote against Bob Turner and George Maragos. She'll face incumbent Democratic state Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the general election in November.
