Police seek rape suspect who fired at officers

Police say they are searching for a man who they believe raped a young woman in Brighton Beach Sunday and then shot at police officers investigating the incident.

According to officials, a 21-year-old woman called police to report that a man had dragged her down an alley before raping her. The victim said the attacker was carrying a gun and knife.

While police were canvassing the scene, they saw a man matching the description given by the victim. After being approached, the man took off, firing shots at the officers as he ran down the street.

Police have identified the suspect as Norman Vanigas, 23.
