City Council makes push for early bird Sunday brunch
The City Council is joining a broiling battle over Sunday brunch laws in Brooklyn.
Council members have introduced legislation that would allow restaurants to open their sidewalk cafes two hours earlier. Currently, city law prohibits outdoor dining before noon.
Supporters of the bill say that giving eateries the opportunity to serve at 10 a.m. will keep both costumers and business owners happy, but many residents near local hot spots argue that sidewalk seating is a hazard.
A spokesperson for the New York City Restaurant Association says it looks forward to working with the City Council to move the bill into law.
