Father, son charged in fatal fire at illegally subdivided building

A father and son from Bensonhurst have been indicted on manslaughter charges for the deaths of their five tenants. As News 12 Brooklyn has reported, five people, including a mother trying to save her young children, perished in an arson fire back in January 2010. Today, charges were brought against Vasilios Gerazounis and his son, Argyrios.Prosecutors say the two men share some blame because the illegal subdivisions in their building created death traps for tenants trying to escape the fire. The fire was allegedly started by Daniel Ignacio, a drunken guest of a first-floor tenant. Ignacio is currently in jail awaiting trial. The building owners face up to 25 years in jail each.
