Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott announced today that the city's graduation rates were at an all-time high last year.

Bloomberg said that as of last year, 65.5 percent of public high school students graduated after four years. The number of students graduating in their fifth or sixth years has also risen.

Walcott announced that black and Latino graduation rates have also been improving in the last 10 years, but that they are still far behind when compared to white students.

The United Federation of Teachers has released a statement saying Bloomberg's numbers are misleading. A spokesperson says that the number of students able to graduate in June after four years are actually down and that Bloomberg's numbers include those who graduated after summer school.
