Public hearing held on Bloomberg's sugary drink ban
The city kicked off the first of several public hearings Tuesday on a controversial proposal to ban large sugary beverages. Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to stop certain drinks from being sold in containers of 16 oz. or more. The ban could affect soda and juice sales at restaurants, movie theaters and sporting venues. Critics and supporters have debated the issue in full force, including dozens of people who protested the proposal outside City Hall on Monday. A formal vote on the issue is scheduled for September.
