Fourth of July turns violent on Brooklyn streets

Last night was a busy one for the NYPD with more than two dozen shootings reported around the city, including several in Brooklyn. According to police, 33-year-old Robert Summers was found shot in the head on Jefferson Avenue by Putnam Street at around 1:30 this morning. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene. Several other people were shot on Putnam and Throop avenues, police say. One victim was shot in the back, and four other people were shot and taken to Kings County Hospital. Meanwhile, EMS says two people were shot at Bristol and Pitkin avenues. A 17-year-old was hit near the collar bone and taken to Brookdale Hospital, while the other victim was shot in the leg. Both are expected to survive, officials say. By Thatford and Riverside avenues, a 34-year-old man was shot and is now in critical condition. Officials say he is not expected to survive. Another 27-year-old man was grazed in that incident, and was taken to Brookdale Hospital.
