Baby red-tailed hawk released in Prospect Park
A young red-tailed hawk that was rescued when it was just weeks old will now call Prospect Park home. The 3-month-old bird was released into the park today by the Brooklyn parks commissioner, park rangers and some third-graders from Saint Savior Elementary. The hawk was rescued when it was 6 weeks old after it was found near Fort Greene Park. Red-tailed hawks are native to New York City, but only about half of young hawks make it through the first year of their lives. To watch extended footage from Prospect Park, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
