Columnist charged with spray-painting over Muslim subway ad
An Egyptian-born U.S. colmunist has been arrested for spray-painting over a controversial advertisement that equates radical Muslims with savages in a subway station. Mona Eltahawy was arrested yesterday and charged with criminal mischief and making graffiti. A video posted online shows Eltahway using a can of spray-paint. The ad reads, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad." It has appeared in 10 subway stations across the city. Eltahawy is a women's rights defender and a lecturer on social media in the Arab world. She describes herself as a liberal Muslim who speaks publicly against violent Islamic groups.
