The MTA is removing trash cans from several subway stations, including two in Brooklyn, as it expands a pilot program that aims to cut down on garbage.The Seventh Avenue and Brighton Beach subway stations will no longer have trash cans. The MTA wants commuters to take their trash with them as they leave subway stations, and by removing the bins, the agency hopes to cut down on rats. Subway riders will be encouraged to do their part through posters.The MTA says the eight stations across the city that no longer have trash bins will be monitored closely over the next six months. After that, transit officials will determine whether they can remove trash cans from all stations.
