Myrtle Ave. businesses: Sales down due to MTA construction

Myrtle Avenue businesses say foot traffic and sales are down after the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) began a major construction project at a nearby subway station.
Construction at the Knickerbocker Avenue station began in August and has shut down M train service in both directions. The construction has caused sales to drop to an all-time low. Businesses in the area say parking woes due to trash, large machinery and the city restrictions also add to their economic troubles.
Business owners are now asking the MTA for thousands of dollars in compensation. Construction is expected to last until January.
The MTA says once construction is complete at the Knickerbocker Avenue station, it will begin the same construction project at the Central Avenue station a few blocks away.
