A beautification project that began as a way to remember those lost on Sept. 11 has now become an annual tradition at P.S. 179.
Students at P.S. 179 planted about 2,000 daffodil bulbs today as part of yearly tradition to spruce up the neighborhood and remember those lost in the terror attacks. The Daffodil Project started in 2001 and is made possible thanks to New Yorkers for Parks. The group distributes hundreds of thousands of bulbs across the five boroughs.
Since the project began, nearly 4 million daffodils have been planted. The daffodil also earned the special of honor of being named the official flower of New York City in 2007 by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
