One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition early Sunday after a two-alarm fire in Brownsville.

According to officials, flames broke out on the first floor of a two-story building on East 98th Street and spread upstairs. They say 55-year-old Shelley Kinley was pulled out in cardiac arrest and taken to Brookdale Hospital.

The Red Cross is providing housing, food and clothing for affected tenants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
