Jewish community begins celebration of Sukkot
Jewish residents in Brooklyn have begun celebrating the holiday of Sukkot.
The main message of Sukkot, which began today and will continue through Sunday evening, is to celebrate and be grateful for life. Many Jewish families will also build a 'sukkah,' a temporary structure, of which the ceiling is always made of a natural substance.
The sukkah represents the dwelling the Israelites had when they traveled in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt.
