Sketch released after attempted child abduction
The NYPD has released the sketch of a man who allegedly tried to abduct a child off the street in Brownsville.
Police say that a 10-year-old girl was walking to school Tuesday morning in Betsy Head Park on Dumont Avenue when a man tried to grab her hand and take her with him. She was able to get away and run back home.
The suspect is described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build, dark complexion and short dreadlocks. He was wearing a navy blue jacket, light blue jeans and tan work boots.
One woman told News 12 Brooklyn that she immediately recognized the man when she saw the sketch. She says he followed her for three blocks on Tuesday, making her feel uncomfortable.
Police say he is wanted for endangering the welfare of a child and not attempted abduction because he didn't actually grab the girl's hand and pull her away somewhere.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
