Brooklyn cultural center closing for renovations

Visitors got one of their last chances Thursday to enjoy the Von King Cultural Center before it closes for renovations.
The Parks Department says it's putting in a new fire alarm system and renovating the auditorium of the Bedford-Stuyvesant center, which is expected to take at least a year and a half.
The department says the center will close for renovations on April 11. Construction won't start until October, however.
Some residents are concerned about how the center closing will impact the community.
Travis Zimmerman lives near the center and says the closure could have devastating effects on local kids. Zimmerman says the center gives them something positive to do and keeps them out of trouble.
Wayne Devonish, of the nonprofit 500 Men Making a Difference, says he's asking the city for funding so he can bring activities to their office across the street from the center.
