More than 100 community members picketed on the steps of Borough Hall Thursday to demand after-school program funding.

Parents of students say the programs are in jeopardy and could be cut in a few months unless the mayor allocates funding in the city's budget.

They say elected officials have not set aside city funding to keep the programs going and are concerned that contracts for 17 after-school programs, including six in Brooklyn, will end on June 30.

They say this would mean that nearly 2,000 children - 500 of them from Brooklyn - will no longer have a place to go and get the educational help they need unless $5.9 million is allocated in the city's budget.

Council members at the rally said they are working with the mayor on the budget to restore funding.
