Last day to sign kids up for free Pre-K
Friday was the last day parents could sign their children up for free pre-kindergarten programs in the city.
The Department of Education has said it is important to find a program that is a good fit for parents and children. For example, schools that offer dual-language programs are listed as "enhanced-language programs." Parents could apply to up to 12 schools, but the schools should be listed in order of preference.
Parents could apply online through 11:59 p.m. Friday. The city's 311 line offered assistance by phone until 6 p.m.
Pre-K admission isn't first come, first served. Decision letters are expected to arrive sometime in June.
