Suspect held without bail in shooting of NYPD officer

The NYPD officer who was shot in the line of duty Saturday has been identified as 25-year-old Brian Moore from Massapequa, Long Island.
Officer Moore was shot in the head just after 6:00 p.m. near 104th Road and 212th Street in Queens.
Police say Officer Moore was on duty, wearing plainclothes and in an unmarked car with his partner when they saw a man suspiciously adjusting his belt. The officers then followed the suspect.
After the officer exchanged words with the suspect, he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at least twice, hitting Moore in the head.
Moore's partner, Officer Erik Jensen radioed for help. Neither officer was able to return fire.
Moore was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The man responsible for the shooting has been identified by police as 35-year-old Demetrius Blackwell.
He was arrested in Queens, 90 minutes after the shooting, following a large manhunt that included both NYPD and Nassau County officers.
Officials say Blackwell has an extensive arrest record. He was wanted for another crime at the time of the shooting, but police say Moore and his partner were not aware of that information.
Blackwell was arraigned in Queens County Criminal Court Sunday afternoon. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault and criminal possession of a weapon, and is being held without bail.
Police say Moore joined the NYPD in July 2010 and is part of an anti-crime unit within the 105th Precinct.
Moore's cousin is an officer and both his uncle and father are retired NYPD sergeants.
