NYPD adds fallen officers to memorial wall
The NYPD remembered the 18 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty last year by adding their names to the memorial wall at One Police Plaza in Manhattan.
The fallen officers include Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were killed in an ambush shooting in Bed-Stuy back in December.
Officer Dennis Guerra is another name being added to the wall. He died after running into a burning building in Coney Island last April, which police say was deliberately set on fire by a teenager.
Also honored was Officer Michael Williams, of the Bronx. He was killed in a highway crash on the Bruckner Expressway in September.
Kalyanarat Ranasinghe was remembered at the service as well. He was accidentally struck by an industrial truck while working as a traffic agent.
The somber memorial service came on the same day that mourners began saying their final farewells to Officer Brian Moore on Long Island. The 25-year-old succumbed to his injuries Monday after being shot in the face in Queens.
More than a dozen of the new names are officers who passed away last year from illnesses related to the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
