"Arts to End Violence" is an initiative that looks for creative ways to talk about violence in Brooklyn.

Now in its fifth year, the Arts to End Violence campaign hosts a gallery that showcases local talent to emphasize the appreciation residents have for the positive aspects of their neighborhoods.

Held at the Crown Heights Community Mediation Center, the Arts to End Violence gallery features over 75 pieces crafted by a mix of young people, adults, professionals and amateurs.

It also demonstrates the power art has to bring people together and raise awareness against violence.

"You know, some people may not know how to express themselves. Some people have a lot of built-up anger and may take it out the wrong way, such as shootings or killing, but now we can all come together and do it with art," said artist Nazir Shaw.

In addition to the showcase, the campaign facilitates workshops in local schools.
