Families learn about dangers of hot plates at demonstration

A fire safety demonstration was held Sunday to help educate people about the potential dangers of hot plates.

The event was organized by Assemblyman Dov Hikind

Hikind spoke about a fire in March that took the lives of seven brothers and sisters from Midwood.

Officials say it was a hot plate that caused the fire.

The community is now being urged to use timers on their hot plates.

Families at the demonstration received free timers and other safety devices.
