A man in his 20s was shot in front of a Coney Island bodega Tuesday, police say.
Witnesses say they heard three shots fired before finding the man lying face down outside the store on Mermaid Avenue and West 24th Street.
The victim is 23 years old and was shot once in the eye, police say.
He was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police say.
Local residents are calling for an increased police presence in the neighborhood.
Police say they have not identified any suspects.
