BK group bestows scholarships on worthy students
A Brooklyn organization has been helping students achieve their goals for decades.
The Women's League of Science and Medicine gives out scholarships to help bright students obtain a higher education. The group, founded back in 1960, recently gave out scholarships to 16 students.
Emilio Woodstock is one of those recipients. He's in his junior year at Syracuse University as a pre-med student, and is focusing on psychology and neuroscience. He uses his $1,000 scholarship to buy books.
Without the money, he says going to college may have been much more difficult.
"It's extremely expensive, especially going to a private institution. My mother being a single mother it's extremely helpful to have this scholarship. They've been following me since high school so it means a lot that they believe in me enough to continue to support me with the scholarship," Woodstock said.
