Hundreds lose power, including senior home
Hundreds of people living in Borough Park were without power and air conditioning Tuesday, including a senior citizen home.
Con Edison said as many as 400 homes were without power overnight along 47th Street, mainly between 16th and 18th avenues, due to a manhole problem.
At Holy Spirit Senior Housing, elderly residents struggled in the heat and were unable to go anywhere without working elevators. Many complained that no one from the management company came to check up on them.
According to Con Edison, outages happened citywide because residents were blasting their air conditioners and overheating the electrical systems. Con Ed encouraged customers to help conserve power by setting thermostats higher, cleaning AC filters, and shutting shades and blinds to keep the sun out.
The super of the building said that he did check on the residents both Monday night and Tuesday morning to make sure that everyone was OK.
