Deteriorating NYCHA apartment leads to health concerns
A family at the Coney Island Houses says that their New York City Housing Authority apartment is slowly falling apart.
Resident Maureen Burns says that cracked tiles, a leak in the ceiling and mold have become problems in her apartment.
Her daughter, Arlina Aruto, says that while workers came by last week, the repairs were sloppy.
"My kids can't even breathe," Aruto says. "They're consistently having problems breathing. There's mold. They came and painted the apartment in the bathroom, they painted right over mold."
On top of the maintenance issues, the tenants say NYCHA increased the rent by $300.
