Tourism, hotel industry boom in Brooklyn

There are currently 30 hotels in the borough, but dozens more are slated for development, according to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
Officials say the 3,500 hotel rooms in the borough will rise to 6,000 by 2018.
They cite Brooklyn's proximity to Manhattan and NYC landmarks, as well as the diverse food and culture in Brooklyn itself.
The general manager of the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Brooklyn says the thriving industry is beneficial to the economy and lifts the spirit of the borough.
The chamber says Brooklyn tourism has grown to about 10 million visitors a year. That has prompted a 60 percent rise in employment in the industry over the past few years.
