Sen. Schumer opposes Iran nuclear deal
Sen. Chuck Schumer has announced his decision to oppose the Obama Administration's nuclear deal with Iran.
Schumer is the first senator of President Obama's party to step forward against the deal brokered last month.
In a statement issued Thursday, Schumer said he doesn't trust Iran to keep up with its end of the agreement. He said his main concern with the deal is that Iran would be free to build a nuclear bomb in a decade or so.
Schumer joins a handful of Jewish Democrats who have announced their opposition, including Rep. Eliot Engel, of New York. But, New York junior Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has said that she supports the deal.
The deal is in the process of a 60-day congressional review.
