Legionnaires' death toll rises to 12

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced new legislation Monday in the fight against Legionnaires' disease after confirming the outbreak's death toll has risen to 12.
He also said the total number of those infected has risen to 113, although he maintained that officials believe there have been no new cases in the last week.
The proposed regulations would require landlords to register their cooling towers with the city Department of Buildings, get quarterly inspections on the towers, and perform regular testing and disinfection.
City Council members said that a hearing is scheduled for Tuesday to introduce the bill, and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said the bill could pass as early as Thursday.
Officials said that the source of the outbreak in the South Bronx could be determined within the next week or two.
Health officials say that anyone experiencing symptoms of Legionnaires' should immediately see a doctor. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, fever, muscle aches and headaches.
