Senior Idol, a song and dance talent competition for people over 50 years old, began Monday in Bay Ridge.
More than 30 contestants took the stage at Xavierian High School to perform dance routines and belt out oldies and modern tunes.
Sen. Marty Golden organized the event, and members from Xavierian's music department served as judges.
Fifteen of the top contestants will advance to the final round of the competition.
Organizers say about having fun and highlighting talent.
It was reported that American Idol had an issue with the Brooklyn talent show's name and sent organizers a cease and desist letter.
Golden says a contract has been signed allowing for the name to be used for the 8th annual Brooklyn Senior Idol.
Competitors will go head-to-head for a spot in the finale, which is scheduled for next month.
