Mayor announces education initiatives

Mayor Bill de Blasio made some big education announcements Wednesday, some of which he says could put New York City schools at the top in the country.
The mayor debuted his plans at the Bronx Latin School for part two of his ambitious education agenda by announcing funding for pre-K expansion, nearly tripling the seats available and incorporating reading specialists for every elementary school.
He also previewed some future changes including college access for all, giving students access to college campuses in the ninth grade and making advanced placement courses available to every student in the city.
The mayor will also hold a Google Plus Hangout with seventh and eighth-graders to promote his technology initiative.
