The mother of a newborn girl found dead in the Bronx Monday has been arrested and charged with murder.
Investigators say the baby was thrown from a window out of a seven-story apartment building in the University Heights neighborhood.
Jennifer Berry, a 33-year-old from Yonkers, was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
The newborn's death was ruled a homicide by the city's chief medical examiner earlier in the day.
The newborn was found dead Monday in a concrete courtyard behind a seven-story apartment building.
Investigators say the newborn girl still had her umbilical cord attached when she was thrown from a window at a West 183rd Street building at around 2:30 p.m.
New York City Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries.
According to a police source, the newborn was still alive when she was thrown out of the window.
Neighbors say the father of the baby was brought in for questioning, but has since been released.
Witnesses say the baby was found covered in a bloody sheet in an alley next to the building. The superintendent's wife made the discovery as she was sweeping around the alley.
Officials say surveillance cameras captured part of the newborn's fall, but police are not releasing the video.
