Defense requests mistrial in Akai Gurley case

Defense lawyers requested a mistrial Wednesday in the manslaughter trial of NYPD Officer Peter Liang.
Liang is charged in the shooting of Akai Gurley, who was unarmed when he was fatally shot in a stairwell at the Pink Houses in 2014.
The judge denied the application for a mistrial.
Jurors requested to hear some of the evidence again as they continued deliberations. They also test-shot the gun Liang used when he shot Gurley.
A police source tells News 12 that police are preparing for the possibility of rallies at the Pink Houses and throughout the city.
The jury will have to wait until after Presidents Day for more deliberations if a verdict is not reached Thursday.
