Legendary boxing gym relocating after 31 years
The legendary boxing gym Gleason's has been a fixture at its Front Street location in DUMBO for decades, but the gym is soon moving to a new location.
After 31 years in its current spot, the gym is moving a block and a half away to Water Street.
Owner Bruce Silverglade says he was completely on board when the building's landlord asked him to move. He says it will be a win-win that let's him move to a newly renovated space and upgrade amenities for his members.
However, he says they will keep a close eye on maintaining the old-school atmosphere of the current gym, where boxing greats like Muhammad Ali have trained.
Silverglade says he hopes to move over the summer and have the new location running by the end of August.
